As I am grading this exam, I have been thinking how we can close the loop with some of the big misunderstandings. I’ve had a thought, which is to ask the students to prepare a response to the rubric. In this response they could address the rubric criteria directly. For example:
PG1: demonstrates understanding of aufbau principle –
If they scored low on this criteria, ask them to quote what they wrote in the exam regarding this criteria and defend it or explain why it didn’t meet the score and what they could have done to reach that metric.
